I got an e-mail from Jackie Burton, with French, West, Vaughan, a large public relations & advertising firm out of New York City. Jackie and I met earlier this year at the Big East Basketball Conference held at the Madison Square Garden. Jackie works with Blinds To Go and wanted to share this news about the companies first recycling program for window treatments.
"A house has a lot of windows, so you can imagine how many blinds, shades and curtains get discarded everyday, ending up in landfills. No matter what the type or where the window treatments were originally purchased, Blinds To Go will take back any used product. Items are then sent back to the company’s manufacturing facility and then disassembled into recyclable components. For example, metals slats get separated and shipped to metal recyclers, and plastic is ground for reuse again. Window treatments that are in good condition are donated to World Vision, an organization dedicated to helping families in need. The program is a great example of reduce (waste going to landfills), recycle (usable materials) and reuse (donate useful items to others)".
The biggest season for windows treatments is the six weeks before Thanksgiving, as people rush to get their houses “company ready” for the holidays. Lots of window treatments are sold at Blinds To Go at this time; and lots of window treatments are discarded. But, it’s a good time to tell everyone about this program. says Jackie Burton of French, West, Vaughan.
Thanks Jackie! I love it. This is a very cool or rather "Green" program to learn about.
